About OCS

Officer Candidate School (OCS) is where the officers are made. It's an intense leadership training ground, and not everyone's cut out for it. It's physically and mentally challenging. But those who are accepted, and see it through, agree it's one of the most rewarding experiences of their lives.

OCS is a great way to enhance your leadership and management skills. Whether you're a first-time Soldier or have prior military experience, OCS will transform you into an effective leader.

3 OCS Options

There are three options for attending OCS, as outlined below. After speaking with a recruiter, you'll choose the best one for you based on your specific circumstances, such as work and family commitments.

1. State OCS (Traditional)
2. National Guard Bureau Accelerated OCS
3. Federal OCS

Requirements:

• A minimum of 60 credit hours to enter State OCS, and 90 credit hours to receive your commission
• A minimum of 90 credit hours for Accelerated OCS
• Be less than 40 years old at time of commissioning
• Be able to pass a Chapter II commissioning physical
• Pass an APFT (Army Physical Fitness Test)
• Be of good moral character
